How to stop yourself from quitting in your current job

What a title? After freaking years of writing blogs, I still suck at titles, intros and everything about writing. But I am so in love in doing it. Having that love affair with my blog is so satisfying for me.

Anyway, I love writing but I don’t do it full time because I have to work in a regular job. Of course to give a living for my family and to pay bills, rent and everything.

Regular jobs are not satisfying in most cases. Usually, we get sick of doing the same thing over and over again. We tend to get tired of this sickening job and just wanted to quit but we can’t.

We can’t because we either can’t afford quitting or we just can’t. There’s really no “or” there, I don’t know whats wrong with me. Since we can’t just quit, here are the things we should take in consideration to stay on our current job. Things we should do or think about. Basically a mindset we should always carry with us. (I have to say “we” because I’m in that situation every other month and most likely if you reached this part you may be in the same position now. LOL. )

How do we do that then?

Tiny disclaimer: This may work or may not and this is purely opinion based on my own experience

We need it it so stay thinking about that need.

Make it to the point that you set your mind to this thinking: “I need a job” than “I love this job”. Don’t force yourself to love it. You should’ve not ever thought about quitting if you love it in the first place.

Forcing yourself to love something(even someone) doesn’t really help you in any kind of situation. But having a need for something may eventually lead you in to loving it. Just don’t stress too much on it.

belief triggers the power to do

Anyway, when you think about how badly you need this job, your body would respond accordingly by working to satisfy what you need. Does love have to become a hard work? Of course not, but your needs do.

Don’t be too clingy to your workmates

Damn! I’m so guilty about this. I had to stay in a job that pays 30-40% less than our expenses for almost three years because of being clingy with my fellas. That made me borrow money and get loans to cope with it.

Also, if you get too much attachment with them, you’ll be negatively impacted by their resignation or termination. That could affect how you behave or respond. Basically, you’ll get emotional with whatever happens to them at work.

Well I’m not saying not to be friendly at all, try to build a better professional relationship with them so you guys can work together well. You can add it with personal touch but just be careful with yur own emotions.

If you can handle your emotions even you’re too attached with others then I guess it should be fine to be clingy. Hahaha.

Don’t just work for your family

It may sound silly because the goal is to work for your family. But you won’t appreciate working if you haven’t tasted your own pay. We don’t wanna lick the money though, but what I mean is try spending for yourself too. At least you would recognize how it feels to spend from your earned money.

love yourself quotes

You won’t feel that you’ve earned something from your work if you have to give it all out to your family. I know it’s really hard to spend for yourself but you had to do that at least occasionally. Being able to get something special for yourself can even make you strive for more.

Take advantage of your leave

Leave Policy for Filipino Employees

So based on the results we are entitled for vacation leaves, that is from DOTR. I found a PDF from DOLE with the same information but it was update 5 years ago. Anyway our laws in the Philippines doesn’t change from time to time. So I guess that information is still accurate. I attached it here on my Evernote: Evernote link

We need to take advantage of our leaves. Even we have rest days, sometimes(or MOST of the time we) can’t even rest at home. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR A MOM. Sorry about the emphasis.

During day offs, we have to do major cleaning, laundry and so many things. Why not take a leave to cool down some burn outs. You don’t have to spend money to take a leave. For me it’s best to take a leave on weekdays, where everyone at home is either at school or work.

Just don’t think about work and house chores. Watch a movie or play games and just be a couch potato. Well I don’t watch movies but I play games on my phone. If you play Mobile Legends, follow and message me at username: miely__  maybe we can play together. LOL.

Don’t take ownership of others’ tasks

learn to say no

If you’re in a team based job, be helpful but learn to say no on things that can take your time and energy. Even the task is being given by someone higher than you, if the task isn’t part of your job, just decline. Being loaded with tasks that are not supposed to be for you can really make you tired. If you’re tired, you get a higher chance of wanting to quit.

Don’t please anyone by taking ownership of their own burden. This won’t really get you promoted.

Perform and excel to get better pay

Aside from burn outs and stress, we usually get unsatisfied with our pay that’s why we wanted to quit. Like “Damn I’m doing things that doesn’t match my pay”. A very good response to yourself “you applied for this job so deal with it”.

quotes for professionals

We are the ones who applied and accepted our current jobs. Whatever pay you’re getting that’s already been agreed upon. But maybe there’s a way to make your pay outs a little better.  There are companies (especially on my current job industry), that provides incentives which usually based on performance.

Performance is the key. If there are incentives that you employer offers then you can get it. Also you are queued for promotions if you perform well.

How would you excel if you wanted to quit?

Make it as your motivation!

“I wanted to quit because I wanted to do something else and I am not happy anymore. But I can’t.

Once again it is because we CANT AFFORD. So let’s add or change something on my dialogue(dialogue?).

“I wanted to quit because I wanted to do something else and I am not happy here. I’ll do my best to earn more. Next year I am out of this effin place. I swear to that!”

Yes with conviction and madness! Also give yourself a time frame. So you can push yourself to your limits.

If you excel, get noticed and earned more than what you usually get, maybe it would make you more happy. Maybe it could satisfy your needs. Maybe you’ll love staying there and just look forward for promotions. Or maybe you can finally quit and do what you’re passionate about.
